The working principle of a double roller press granulator can be summarized in four steps: feeding; extrusion molding; crushing ; screening.
Various dry powder materials are fed from the top of the equipment, and after degassing and spiral pre-compression, enter the double rollers. The double rollers consist of two parallel and relatively rotating rollers made of high-strength alloy steel. The roller surfaces have grooves of a specific shape to enhance interlocking and determine the final particle shape. After the material enters the wedge-shaped extrusion zone between the two rollers, it undergoes plastic deformation under high pressure and is compressed into flakes or strips. The formed flakes then undergo crushing, granulation, and screening processes to obtain regular particles that meet the particle size requirements. The extrusion pressure can be adjusted by hydraulic cylinders according to the needs of the granulation operation.
The complete set of equipment typically consists of the following parts:
Frame: Welded from medium carbon steel plates and channel steel, supporting all working parts.
Transmission System: Motor, reducer, coupling, gear set, etc., driving the rollers to rotate synchronously in opposite directions.
Extrusion System: A pair of high-strength alloy steel rollers; the roller surfaces can be machined with different shaped grooves or dents to determine the final particle shape.
Feeding System: Equipped with a screw forced feeder to ensure uniform and continuous material entry into the roller gap.
Crushing and Screening System: Crushes and screens the extruded sheet material to produce finished granules.
Dry forming, energy-saving and environmentally friendly: Extrusion granulation is carried out at room temperature, requiring no fuel or gas for drying, and producing no wastewater or exhaust emissions, making it a typical green process. Compared to wet processes such as steam granulation, dry granulation eliminates energy consumption during the drying process, reducing subsequent drying costs by 30%-50%.
No binders required: Traditional wet granulation relies on water vapor to condense and crystallize between material molecules for binding, but incomplete drying can lead to clumping during fertilizer storage. Dry granulation utilizes only the intermolecular forces of the material itself, simplifying the process and avoiding the impact of additives on product purity.
Low investment and simple process: Because it eliminates the need for a drying system and related auxiliary equipment, the extrusion granulation process is shorter, the equipment layout is more compact, and the overall investment and operating costs are relatively lower.
Strong raw material adaptability and flexible formula switching: Currently, it has been successfully applied to the granulation processing of various materials such as ammonium nitrate, urea, ammonium chloride, potassium chloride, potassium sulfate, and compound fertilizers. One unit can flexibly switch to produce multiple formula products.
The product has excellent characteristics: the extruded particles have high density and strength, are not easily broken, and dissolve slowly after being applied to the soil, thus having a certain slow-release and controlled-release effect.
